Is Rava Uttappam healthy?

Rava Uttapam or Suji Uttapam is a quick, easy, healthy, mouth-watering and filler South Indian breakfast recipe that can also be relished as a snack or even as lunch and dinner. It is a savory griddle cake cooked with semolina (rava) and topped with vegetables.

What is Rava called in English?

In Indian sub continent, semolina (called Rava, Suji or Sooji) is used for such sweets as halwa and rava Kesari.

How to serve uttappam?

Uttappam is one of the most popular dishes of South India and is often served with sambar or coconut chutney


For batter:

  •  1 cup rava /Suji /Semolina
  •  1 cup curd
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 or 3/4  cup water 

For Toppings:

  • 1 onion(finely chopped)
  • 1 tomato (finely chopped)
  • 4 to 5 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 2 Tbsp. coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tsp black pepper

 





How to make Rava uttappam step by step photos:


Firstly in a large bowl take 1 cup rava,1cup curd and 1 tsp salt 

   

 Add Rava 

          

     Add curd

                                           



Mix well making sure the curd is combined well.


Further, and 1/2 cup water and mix well adjusting consistency. Check for consistency adding more water if required.

Add salt




Rest for 20 minutes or until the rava absorbs well.



Now prepare the vegetable toppings, by taking 1 large onion ,1 finely chopped tomato,4 to 5 chopped green chilies,2tbsp coriander leaves,1/2 tsp salt and 1Tsp black pepper














Mix it well make sure everything is well combined

Now heat a pan add spread the 1 tsp oil 

                                     

                                                     

Wipe it out a little with tissue

                   

Now pour the rava batter into pan

                      

Top with a Tbsp of prepared toppings and press gently

                       



                    


Pour1 tsp oil around the uttappam .And cook for a minute or until the base is cooked well.

                                                     


Flip and cook both sides.

                      




                  

Finally enjoy instant rava uttappam with coconut chutney or sambar like the most-the choice is up to you.

            





Note: 
  • You can choose your choice of vegetables like carrot, finely chopped green beans, corn and any your favorite veggies.
  • Do not cook on high heat, uttappam will not cook through
  • Size: what size you want to make it is your choice.
